Web Development Roadmap 2022: What You Need to Know11 min read

What does the web development road look like in 2022? It’s hard to say for sure, but we can speculate based on things we do know, and how they might impact developers of the future. Here’s what you need to know about web development in 2022, as well as some advice on how to start preparing yourself today to be successful in the future.

Frontend Development
Frontend development (front-end, client-side) is focused on designing and developing websites, web applications and other software that can be run in a browser or on a mobile device. Frontend developers use programming languages like HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript or AngularJS for their work. Every now and then it’s also common for frontend developers to develop native mobile apps with frameworks like React Native by Facebook or Ionic by Drifty Co. The term was previously reserved exclusively for web development but nowadays there’s an ever increasing number of businesses leveraging various cloud platforms like Salesforce, Office 365 or Google Drive Cloud App Platform.

HTML & CSS
Our existing technologies will continue to serve our needs for quite some time. HTML, CSS, and similar standards have all stood their ground over several years and are here to stay. It’s possible they will develop new versions in 2022, but don’t expect any major overhauls. These standards are tried-and-true, if a bit bland. Don’t worry if you’re using basic tools—the internet was built with them. If you want more advanced options that could appear in roadmap 2022 or beyond, you’ll have plenty of time to catch up on these skills before they’re absolutely necessary.

JavaScript
It’s unlikely that JavaScript will become any less essential in web development, as it is commonly used on both client and server sides. With an incredibly active community, a large number of open source projects and libraries, and tons of useful documentation online (especially free resources), JavaScript is going nowhere. It’s likely that more people will be learning JavaScript even in 2022 because of its universal nature across many different platforms. Any serious developer should know JavaScript by now. But if you’re just getting started, there are plenty of tools out there (including Codecademy) that can help you get off on the right foot with learning how to code your first website using JavaScript. Frameworks
To understand how one framework will stand out in 2022, it’s important to understand what frameworks are and why they’re so important. Frameworks help facilitate web development projects by providing a means of streamlining development. This can take a lot of time away from building websites and apps; time that could be better spent developing core features and focusing on user experience. A good framework provides predictable functionality so that developers can focus on other aspects of creating their website or app, like design, content creation, and marketing. Frameworks also make it easier for you to find information about your chosen technology as more resources become available online over time.

React
Today, there are dozens of frameworks vying for developer attention. Of these, none have enjoyed such a meteoric rise as React. Since it was introduced in 2013, React has been downloaded more than 1 million times. This surge in popularity is not surprising—React is fast becoming one of if not THE most popular framework for web development today. If you’re thinking about learning how to become a front-end web developer, investing in your education with React will pay off handsomely over time.

Next.js
If you’re new to web development, full stack development is becoming increasingly popular. In order for a developer like yourself to build full stack web applications, you’ll have to learn how to work with several different technologies in combination with one another. The key tools are JavaScript and CSS. Both of these languages are relatively easy to pick up, especially if you find that they fit well into your skill set (after all, learning new skills is part of what being a programmer is all about). If you want even more help understanding these technologies and how they can be used together—and why it matters—check out next.js.

PHP, MySQL & Others
There are literally thousands of different programming languages you can use when developing a website. But, for our purposes, we’ll just focus on PHP and MySQL. The three frameworks mentioned before (Laravel, Symfony, and WordPress) all rely on MySQL databases (or MariaDB). In order to work with those tools, it’s important that you know how PHP & MySQL work together. Using these two open-source technologies is quite common today. And they are almost always used together because they’re extremely useful; it’s unlikely that either one will replace the other in coming years, even though there are new contenders in both fields all of time.

Backend Development
The full stack web development roadmap includes both frontend and backend development. While no frameworks are specifically focused on backend web development, there are many options for people who enjoy a more challenge or want to learn full stack development. The fastest framework for web development is known as NodeJS, which uses an event-driven, non-blocking I/O model and can scale almost effortlessly. However, it does have a steep learning curve compared to other frameworks. Backend developers work with APIs and manage site data.

Databases
According to a recent survey, the main priority for IT organizations will be preparing for big data and supporting analytics. Databases are often used in analytics because they allow large amounts of data to be viewed in many different ways (sort, filter, etc.). Developers have lots of options when it comes to databases—SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL), NoSQL (MongoDB), RDF/RDFS. . . . The good news is that you don’t have to decide which type you want your database(s) to be at first—most development platforms support multiple databases types. However, as your web development projects increase in size and scale, you may find that some work better than others.

MySQL
While MySQL is still far and away number one in popularity, it’s declining. Developers are flocking toward PostgreSQL as a viable alternative that includes many of MySQL’s strengths and none of its weaknesses. If you’re still using MySQL, it may be time to consider making a change. For an overview of how to transition, check out our guide for migrating from MySQL to PostgreSQL . Full-stack web development can get complicated, so start off by learning about common development practices. That way you’ll have a general sense of what lies ahead in your career. The Web Development Roadmap can help with that; it breaks down various web development projects into user stories and lets you view those stories through various technical stacks like PHP/Python/NodeJS or Ruby on Rails.

MongoDB
Because we’re discussing technical topics, it might seem strange that we’d recommend a resource that isn’t strictly technology-based. We include it because MongoDB is really important for those looking to pursue careers in software development and web design. In fact, recent hiring reports say that almost 70% of companies now consider a candidate’s knowledge of NoSQL databases when making hiring decisions. That being said, you don’t have to be an expert on every aspect of web development in order to get started; just learn enough so you can decide whether or not you want to focus your studies more deeply on backend web development skills like NodeJS and MongoDB (we’ve given you some pointers above). It could be worth your while!

API (Application Program Interface)
Software companies are becoming increasingly dependent on data, and software itself is getting more complicated. It’s likely that we will see a rise in popularity of APIs (Application Program Interface) and DevOps (Developers Operations). These technologies help make applications more reliable, efficient, secure, and scalable. If you want to continue pursuing a career in web development for 2022 or beyond, it’s a good idea to brush up on your API skills! Your path through education can be affected by many factors—what kind of institution you attend plays a major role.

Client-Server Architecture
The basics of web development start with a simple client-server architecture. HTML is sent from your server (or computer) to your browser, where it’s then interpreted and rendered into a useful interface. All of your initial web development projects will build off of client-server architecture. 2022, however, may see some changes in how websites function on mobile devices and Internet of Things devices—some new techniques are being developed that streamline communication between all of these different types of hardware and software. But for now, let’s keep things as simple as possible. For every web project you work on in 2022, make sure you have a basic understanding of client-server communication!

Version Control System ( VCS )
A software configuration management system (or configuration management system, or source code management system) is a collection of tools that track changes in a software project’s source code over time so that most of a group of people can collaborate on projects while knowing which version they are working on. Version control systems provide revision control and also record metadata about individual changes. This allows you to recover older versions, roll back changes that cause problems, and mark specific points in history as being important. They may also have features for access rights, allowing different users to change files under different conditions. Some of these tools are distributed (for example Subversion), while others work locally with files stored on disk (e.g., Git).

Build Some Projects For Perfection
Web development projects are great for practicing and learning, especially if you’re working on your own. The great thing about web development is that there’s no shortage of tools and services out there that can help you build projects from scratch. However, one of these tools or services isn’t always a perfect fit. If a project doesn’t come together how you expected it would, try another service or tool and then compare what worked best for that project. This experimentation is key for mastering your skills as a web developer—and doing so will make Web Development Roadmap 2022 perfect in no time at all!

Graphics Design & Animation
The graphics and animation industry continues to grow and evolve with technology. The demand for animators, designers, and other digital creators is also growing steadily. According to Global Workforce Analytics Research from Creative Skillset (the UK’s leading skills body for the creative industries), demand for games designers is expected to grow by more than 55% between 2016 and 2022, with similar growth predicted for animators over that same period. If you already have a passion for technology or design, combining it with animation may be a great way of breaking into an industry where jobs are set to increase exponentially in coming years. There are many courses offered in both areas that can help you learn all you need about your chosen area as well as give you vital experience working on real projects.

  1. User Interface (UI)
UI (User Interface) is basically a software application that allows human beings, not computers, to interact with it. Any software application or website on which you directly interact with must have an interface for humans. It should be simple and easy for humans because these applications should make our lives easier not more complicated. If any interface is designed in such a way that it makes life more difficult, then it can be said that these interfaces are bad and users will find them difficult to use and they won’t come back.
  2. User Experience (UX)
User Experience (UX) is about human-computer interaction. In other words, UX design aims to improve how a person interacts with a service or product by helping them accomplish their tasks quickly and easily. This field of web development has gained a lot of popularity in recent years because it’s essentially all about serving users. If you want an industry that’s growing rapidly and also caters to your creative side, UX might be right for you. As far as 2022 is concerned, there are multiple avenues that one can take within UX—whether you choose front-end (development), back-end (development), or both is up to you!

VCS ( Version Control System )
Since most of our team members are web developers, we believe React Js will be one of top technologies used by 2022. And VCS ( Version Control System ) like Github is indispensable in today’s web development industry, it helps us learn faster and work better. ( We highly recommend you start your professional career with a professional git repo ). In addition, by 2022, another new technology will come out and replace HTML5 in mobile devices and website frontend design.
